About Rose Brown

Born in North Bay Ontario, Rose grew up with creativity all around her. Her painting started to flourish wih the development of her method of layering transparent washes one over the other, building up tone until the painting seems to take on a life of its own. Lately her technique of negative painting turns the tables on the usual lighter to darker methods of watercolour. This new painting style starts out with the darkest colours, laying in patches, dropping in brilliant colours and sometimes spraying water on to half dry paint to wash away random areas giving a very organic feel to the image.
Rose remains strongly influenced by her training in commercial art, striving to bring balance, flow and design to her compositions. using her skill as a framer she often accentuates her paintings with treasures found in nature.

The directness of expression in each of her paintings emphasizes the importance of all aspects of life on earth giving us a window into her own spirit and in turn inviting us to join with her in the beauty of life.
